Ceratophysella sp. ‘Lilac’
A springtail with an unusual soft purple to lilac colouration that sets it apart from the common white and grey species. ‘Lilac’ is the parent line from which the Yellow Albino variety was isolated, and it shares the same lively temperament: these springtails are always on the move and jump readily when disturbed, which makes a culture fun to observe.
Rapid colony growth
‘Lilac’ reproduces quickly under good conditions. Incubation is short, and juveniles mature and begin breeding within roughly 2 to 3 weeks. A small starter culture develops into a strong, dense colony in a short time, giving you plenty of springtails for seeding terrariums or starting new cultures.
Thrives on ISM-1
We keep our cultures on ISM-1, Bioryza’s dedicated food for springtails and isopods. ‘Lilac’ responds very well to it, with fast growth of juveniles and noticeably higher reproduction than on improvised foods. For a productive culture that is ready to harvest sooner, ISM-1 is the easiest choice.
Low maintenance
This springtail is comfortable at temperatures from 15 to 28°C and adapts to a range of moisture levels, from lightly damp to quite wet substrate. Little ventilation is needed: opening the container once a week for fresh air is enough.
A reliable clean up crew
In bioactive setups ‘Lilac’ does an excellent job of breaking down leftover food, organic debris and mould. By keeping waste under control, it helps maintain a clean, stable environment for the animals living in the enclosure.
