How to Store and Prepare Artificial Diets
Artificial diets are a breakthrough in Lepidoptera breeding—but to get the best results, proper storage and preparation are essential.
Why Storage Matters
Artificial diets are formulated with precise nutrient balances. Exposure to air, heat, or moisture can break down these nutrients or encourage mold growth. Proper storage preserves both the safety and effectiveness of the diet, ensuring consistent larval development and better breeding results.
Storage Tips
Keep it dry
Store powdered diets in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Avoid humidity.
Avoid heat and sunlight
Excessive warmth or direct light can degrade vitamins and affect texture. Choose a shaded storage area away from heat sources such as radiators or windows.
Refrigerate opened diets
After opening, Bioryza artificial diets should be refrigerated to make them fresh longer. Always reseal tightly to prevent moisture exposure.
Preparing the Diet
Measure accurately
Use a digital scale to follow the recommended powder to water ratio. Accurate measurement ensures the correct texture and nutritional value.
Heat and mix
Bring the water to boil, then add powdered diet to water and stir it well.
Pour and set
Pour the hot diet into clean, sterile container. Let it cool in fridge until its cold. Avoid covering while still hot to prevent condensation.
Store unused portions
Keep prepared diets in the refrigerator in a sealed container. Use within 15 days.
